STYLISTIC MARKS OF LEXEMES IN EXPLANATORY DICTIONARIES OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE

Abstract

The article presents data about two English explanatory dictionaries Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary and Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English 6th edition for advanced learners. According to this, their stylistic labels, features and peculiarities are given in this article. Longman English dictionary and Oxford dictionary are the best instances of logical word references in English language. The importance of dictionaries are extremely fundamental for the students while learning language and instructing dialects. Learners use dictionaries in the lesson and explanatory dictionaries give data about significance, pronunciation, any unique linguistic elements, normal collocations, model expressions or sentences to the students. Comparison between Oxford and Longman dictionaries are exactly shown in this article. Similarities and differences of two explanatory dictionaries’ stylistic labels are mentioned.
